Intaglio printing is created by etching the design into the substrate. Ink is then forced into the lines. The depth of lines can be of different depths meaning the lines printed can be of both different values dark to light and different widths. Many times the plate is warmed before the ink is applied and a dabber is used to fore the ink in more deeply. The surface of the plate is then wiped clean before printing occurs. This processs requires a greater amount of pressure to be applied. The paper may be wetted before the presssing occurs. Traditionally the paper is layed on lambs wool and put through the intaglio press (two large cylindars similar to the old fashioned mango. The edges of this print will have a plate mark as the top plate presses down on the paper
